Ask and You Shall Receive

In Colin Bain’s parting shot at Tuesday’s debate he said he was “still waiting for that clean campaign pledge” So, we gave it to him (See the video on the right side of the screen or go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtDSTSAsW80). On Friday, Amy and Natalie went to the fifth hour AP Politics class to ask Colin to sign the 2010 Clean Campaign Pledge. Not surprisingly, he refused. Colin Bain is a hypocrite. He asked for the pledge to sign, and when we gave it to him, he refused. The pledge read:

“The undersigned parties retract any and all previous negative and slanderous ads, blog posts, etc. and swear to use clean campaign strategies from here on out”

The STATE Party blog claims that this is an infringement of their First Amendment rights. First, they clearly need a lesson in Constitutional law. The First Amendment only protects individuals from the government; it does not apply to private organizations. Second, we simply provided them with the campaign pledge, which Colin so dramatically requested. We weren’t trying to force unfair policies on them.

For example, the STATE Party posted a slanderous ad claiming “Is Calvert Exploiting Unpaid Chinese Immigrants?” It’s probably important to point out that it’s a picture of Alex Kong, from Fifth Hour AP Politics. This is just one of many examples of their weak, underhanded campaigning. A Vote for the STATE Party is a Vote for Lies.

We had an incredible opportunity to engage in an in-depth discussion of the issues, to be better then our adult counter parts, and Calvert feels that we would be remiss to pass it by and that is exactly what the State Party has done by focusing almost exclusively on negative campaign ads. That’s why Calvert pledged to run a clean campaign.

As you go to the polls tomorrow, you will be faced with a choice, voting for Calvert: the one that has been honest to you throughout the whole campaign, the one with smart policies that will make America better. Or you could vote for Colin: the one who asked for a clean campaign pledge and then refused to sign it, the one with policies that will explode America’s deficit, damage its environment, and leave America much worse than before. It’s an easy choice.

Vote Calvert Pfannenstiel for President.

Addressing the Issues: The State Party’s Environmental Policy Does Not Help America’s Energy Future, nor does it Follow the Fundamental Values of Freedom that America was Founded Upon

The State Party proposes banning light-bulbs as well as regulating water consumption. This is anti-American.

As a country, we were built on the idea of freedom; and freedom includes the choice to use the light bulbs we want and drink water when we want. The Free Party seeks to encourage conservation on an individual basis through spreading awareness and providing incentives, but not through an un-American mandate.

The truly original part of the State Party’s environmental policy is developing hydrogen power, but nothing could be more ineffective. We are decades away from having the necessary technologies, according Mayer Hillman, a Senior Analyst at the London Policy Institute. Even then, the process of hydrolysis is prohibitively expensive because it takes more energy to create the hydrogen fuel cells than they what can produce. Additionally, according to Dr. Shinnar, Professor of Chemical Engineering at City College of New York, the infrastructure necessary for this system is not in existence. That means we need a new Smart Grid to even be able to have the chance of using hydrogen effectively.

The Smart Grid is the critical component of energy policy. A Smart Grid allows us to use all alternative energies effectively because it allots for the nation-wide transfer of energy, while simultaneously creating millions of local jobs during the overhaul process. The Free Party supports the aggressive construction of the Smart Grid, while at the same time providing incentives for wind, solar, and nuclear power to ensure long-term, energy independence.

There is, of course, the big question: “How can America pay for it all?” Calvert is the only one that has given you the answer. Calvert supports reasonable tax increases, combined with cuts in pork barrel spending projects, like the $4,545,000 for research into the uses of wood and the $2,192,000 for the Center for Grape Genetics.

If you care about the future of the environment, as well as the future of America's energy dependence, vote for Calvert.

Addressing the Issues: The State Party’s Health Care Policy is a Step Too Far in the Wrong Direction

The Bain Campaign advocates the creating of a government-run health care. This sounds good at first, but thorough examination shows that it is the least feasible option.

First, "Free" health care isn't really free; it would cost the nation $1.4 billion per year. This means higher taxes and more spending cuts in other areas such as defense, education, and so on.

Second, the health care industry is likely to become infused with the same kind of corruption, back-room dealing, and special-interest-dominated sleaziness that is already prevalent in other areas of government. Do we really want the government playing with people’s lives? The worst case scenario is the government rationing health care, equipment, and drugs; exactly what the State Party is proposing.

Instead, the Free Party advocates a reasonable middle ground: the creation of a public insurance option provided by the government.

This proposal is the solution for America’s current health care system. Profit motives, competition between the private and public options, and individual ingenuity have always effectively led to greater cost control, which is why a Public option is the best solution. It fixes the broken free market system, while maintaining its benefits. Currently, private health care providers are limited to their home state, so many states’ healthcare are run by monopolies. A federal public option would be open to everyone, thus providing at least one competitor for each current private company.

If you care about the future of the Health Care System, Vote for Calvert.

Addressing the Issues: The State Party’s Social Security Plan is Not Comprehensive

Social Security reform is not a simple issue, but Bain has never advocated anything other than ending federal dipping. That is not enough.

Calvert and the Free Party are dedicated to comprehensive reform including Reducing the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), offered by the Social Security Administration, which would preserve Social Security for a quarter of a century.

Additionally, the Free Party advocates commencing a program to balance the amount being provided for elderly by decreasing the amount high-wealth elderly Americans receive and increasing the amount low-wealth elderly Americans receive. According to the Economist, this would preserve Social Security’s fiscal stability. In a time of fiscal crisis for Social Security, we should put our money with the people that need it most.

This policy would be executed in conjunction with the “phase-out” proposal, where Social Security would be terminated for individuals who are currently under the age of 15 and the program would slowly be transformed into a poverty-aid program.

If you care about the future of Social Security, Vote for Calvert.

Calvert Pfannenstiel: Energizing the Energy Reform

Calvert supports robust energy incentives that will preserve America’s economy and environment. Calvert supports the aggressive expansion of our nuclear, wind, solar energy systems.

In addition, the Free Party supports the establishment of a national Smart Grid that will create millions of sustainable jobs in constructing and maintaining the grid. It will also overhaul the current grid, which the Army Corp of Engineers gives a depressing D+ in terms of reliability. A Smart Grid would allow energy being produced from solar panels in California and wind farms in Kansas to be delivered to homes in New York. A Smart Grid monitors the energy flow in real-time, which means that if the wind stops blowing in Kansas the grid can compensate and bring in energy from wind turbines in other parts of the nation or from nuclear facilities to ensure a constant energy flow. The grid can also interact with individual appliances, and when power becomes expensive during peak hours, it can turn off the appliance, saving YOU money. Additionally, if a power line goes down, the Smart Grid can re-route power; so you don’t have to live in the dark. In short, a Smart Grid is critical to overcoming the shortcomings of individual alternative energy sources and allowing for a coordinated approach to America’s clean energy future.

A vote for Calvert is a vote for comprehensive energy reform, dedicated to saving you money, creating jobs, and ushering in an era of clean energy.

Handy Healthcare

Now is the best time to improve our healthcare system. Calvert feels that having a government-run health insurance program will benefit all Americans. Underprivileged citizens will easily be able to afford the government-provided insurance, while still leaving the option of privatized healthcare for those who choose to purchase it.
Calvert also believes that private insurance companies have been allowed to run amok for far too long. Taking advantage of the system, as well as the population, they have driven up prices to ridiculous levels. Public insurance guarantees the long awaited reality check these elevated corporations need. By providing the option of healthcare to everyone, the government will present the challenge that will in turn encourage the private sectors to lower their own prices.
“Everyone should have the right to reasonable healthcare options,” says Calvert. So do not fear the future of the healthcare system. Vote Free Party and guarantee yourself a future of well-being!

Say What, Social Security?

Social Security is a fundamentally strong system. It allows people to have financial security in their older years, having previously paid for it from their paychecks in life. That sounds pretty fair right?
These funds are collected and stored as one big fund though, which has caused major temptations to the federal government. In the past decade, the government has been taking funds, or “dipping” from Social Security funds to pay for the other things outside of social benefits
Another fact is that the funds for Social Security services and benefits are decreasing. The amount being replaced each month is not enough to cover everything that comes out. At the rate that Social Security is draining, no funds will be available to our generation.

Calvert wants to reform Social Security to how it should be. He plans to end the “dipping” into its funds and stabilize the system. If you want Social Security, vote for Cal.

Presidential Nomination

Lawrence, Kansas, 10/21/10 — Yesterday, Calvert Pfannenstiel visited various Government classes to discuss the issues facing America. The discussions we had were productive and the Calvert Campaign looks forward to more meetings.

Calvert is continuing his positive approach to the campaign, unlike his counterpart in the State Party. The Bain campaign persists to engage in seditious libel, but the Free Party remains committed to running a clean campaign.

Additionally, the Free Party remains committed to environmental conservation. The Party intends to recycle all paper used in the course of the campaign. Calvert always says, “Go big or go home in an environmentally friendly way.”

Also, President Obama has officially endorsed Calvert for President. See the video.
